A good day
Last Friday was a good day. Two exciting things happened with my forthcoming book So Why Have You Never Been Married? First, in the battle that my publisher and I were waging with the sales people over a single word in the subtitle, we won. You can see the final book cover below.
The other exciting thing that happened is that I got to create my Questions and Answers (Q & A) for my press kit. When you have a book published, prior to the publication date, you, or more likely your publisher, will assemble a press kit for use in promoting your book to…you guessed it…the press. The press kit contains, among other things, your bio, a picture of you and a Q & A sheet. The Q & A sheet is a list of ten or so questions (with answers) that somebody from the press interviewing you would ask you if they believe your answers would be of interest to their audience. Whether it is a newspaper reporter or a radio personality, rarely will they have time to read your book prior to an interview with you. But they still need to make a dialogue with you seamless and interesting. The safest way for them to do that is to ask you questions that they are sure you already know the answer to: your questions! So the Q & A is sent to them in advance of your interview to get them up to speed on your book. The Q & A is where you get to discuss those aspects of your book that you think will interest your intended audience the most and really get them excited to buy your book. Want to know what questions I came up with? Here’s a sample (and yes, this is a shameless plug to try and sell my book).
1. How common is it to find a never-married person over the age of 40?
2. What is the most surprising thing you discovered about why these men haven’t married?
3. What suggestions do you have for women dating never married men?

How excited would you be to see your name on the cover of a book? Let me hear from you.
